I highly recommend it (and, I pretty much eat out every meal of every day and live in a major metro with access to whatever I want).
The donuts and cinnamon rolls are delicious and the lady with the long braid was pleasant.
Food great, quick. People friendly and always ask the right questions when ordering. Ordered eggs, sausage, hash browns, toast. Eggs done perfect, got bacon which was yummy, hash browns (they are the only place in Ouray that does them, toast lightly buttered everything was perfect. One of my favorite places in town. Love the owners.
Don't even bother. Sporadic hours, and rude owner.
I can't review the food, because we never got a chance to eat there. They were not open when we went by at lunchtime on Friday, and the door was locked at 10:00 AM on Saturday, although there were people inside. This morning, I called about 9:10, and a lady answered. "Oh, you're open this morning," I said, pleasantly. "No, we're closed right now because we ran out of seats. Thank you. (Click.)" Apparently you're not allowed to wait for a table? ONLY because we had certificates from our hotel, we decided to try going there anyway. (Maybe a seat or two opened up.) The door was open, so we walked right in." Were closed," the lady said. Quite confused, I asked when they closed. "We usually close at 10:00,but we're closing a little early today." IT WAS 9:25 AM ON SUNDAY!!! She pointed to the unlit open sign, said "Enjoy your day." As we walked down the steps, we heard the bolt slide as she locked the door behind us.
I plan on hitting them up at least once more before I get out of town.
I stopped in two other places for breakfast in Ouray my first day here because of their reviews. I chose not to eat at either. I ended up at the Timberline. I was tended to promptly, my order came out quickly, and I thought they had the nicest ambiance out of anybody else open for breakfast.
Go to Backstreet Bistro instead. Very friendly staff, GREAT food, and a "hometown" atmosphere.
I had their breakfast sandwich with sausage on a croissant. It was a hearty serving and the croissant was as good as any I get in the city. I liked it so much I went back the next day (today).
Our last day, they locked the door as we were trying to open it. It was 8:30am and our vouchers were valid from 7-9am. We walked in the other door thinking it was a mistake, the man yelled at us that the last person he would serve is that man in front is us. Wow. I called after 9am when I saw people going in and the man told me that they closed for 20 minutes because they had too many orders. I asked why we couldn't have waited and he hung up on me! If he had only been polite, I would have happily waited...
Rude! Zero stars! We had breakfast vouchers from our hotel and we had multiple bad experiences with the slender man behind the counter wearing a baseball hat. He needs a job where he's not dealing with customers. I'd suggest an over the road truck driver, so he doesn't lash out on anyone, or maybe ditch digging, so he can work his aggressions out. He acted like taking our order was the last thing he wanted to be doing, then overcharged us!
My wife and I enjoyed breakfast here all three days of our visit to Ouray. Great food, hearty portions and a nice atmosphere. We also took homemade cinnamon rolls to enjoy later in the day. The restaurant is run by the owners and the pride they take in their business definitely shows. Highly recommended.
